McCoy-Slongo noted another change will be shorter bingo sessions — down from four hours to two in length.
That means a member-group's per-session share could drop, while giving other groups opportunities to hold more sessions.
Pseudonyms will no longer be permitted. Starting this week, bingo players in Thunder Bay can play a different way, and at a new location.
The addition of electronic bingo — as well as modernizing the whole operation — has meant a lot of training for gaming hall staff and volunteers from its member charities.
But every hall we've talked to that's gone to this model just loves it. Under the new model, hall staff — not charity volunteers — will run the bingos.
Charity helpers will instead be on hand to promote their work and interact with the public, McCoy-Slongo said. The change is a positive one, said Linda Bachmaier, who is with the Friends of the Thunder Bay Public Library.
By the end of January, another section of the hall will be opened, McCoy-Slongo added. There will be a lounge area featuring TapTix machines, which are more like slot machines.
